At the District Cub Camp during the hot summer the Cubs from Pulborough and Bury held a Pack Forum and one of the activities voted for was Ice Skating. This is something we haven’t offered before, but undaunted, Raksha offered to organise it for the whole Pulborough and West Chiltington Scout Group. On 16 December 2022 we invited all of our Beavers, Cubs and Sea Scouts to come ice skating at Worthing Ice Rink. In all sixty scouts took to the ice, along with nine leaders and three more standing by as first aiders. Some parents and siblings also came along too. For most this was their first taste of ice skating, and the number of slips and falls didn’t put them off – everyone carried on for the full hour, taking away some colourful bruises on elbows as rewards for their efforts. As Baden-Powell said, “The most worth-while thing is to try to put happiness into the lives of others” and judging by the smiles as the faces whizzed or edged past, we certainly did that.
